THE MARK KALMANOWITZ FRIDAY NIGHT LEARNING PROGRAM: This week's dvar torah is being presented by Dr. Robert Koppel, in honor of his daughter Shoshana becoming a bas mitzvah on the 4th day of Adar.
Tammy and Robert Koppel have made a generous contribution to the Mark Kalmanowitz Learning Project Fund, sponsoring the entire month of learning in chodesh Adar, in honor of the occasion of their daughter Shoshana becoming a bas mitzvah. Mazal tov to Shoshana and her entire family. In the z'chus of the learning and their tzedaka, may they be zocheh to see nachas from Shoshana and all of their children.

DAF YOMI SPONSORSHIP: This coming week's daf yomi learning is being sponsored by the Menchel family, to commemorate the yahretzeit of Beaty's mother, Sara Rivka bas Shmuel, which took place on Friday, the 12th day of Adar. WEST HEMPSTEAD FOOD BANK: We know that there are many people in need, and we have the means to help. The West Hempstead Food Bank, which has been operating for a year, provides food on a totally confidential, anonymous basis. Food is available for everyday as well as for Shabbat. PROJECT ELIEZER: Thank you in advance for all you support for our friends and neighbors who have either lost jobs, are close to losing homes and in general are experiencing financial hardship. The Eliezer project is already helping 10 families from West Hempstead. Please forward any checks for contribution to Victor Oelbaum made out to the Young Israel of West Hempstead with a note on bottom "The Eliezer Project". SIMCHA SCHEDULING. In light of several recent simcha scheduling conflicts, please make sure when planning a simcha, that you notify and check with the Shul and West Hempstead community calendars. The shul calendar is maintained by Sully Diamond (486-1724) and the West Hempstead community calendar is maintained by Charnie Adler (485-7251).

YOUTH DEPARTMENT NOTICES

OUR PURIM CARNIVAL last week was a huge success. We had over 60 children participate in the ticket redemption program. The feedback that I heard was all positive. I'd like to thank the following youth leaders for all of thier hard work and dedication. Due to the assistance and creativity of the following youth leaders the program was very well recieved: Eli Feder, Aliza Feder, Zoe Tanen, Ilan Tanen, Brian Lang, Andrew Lustbader, Jordana Sojcher, Eitan Blumstein, Josh Friedman, Eitan Bedziner, Akiva Hochbaum, Sender Gross and Yossi Koppel. ECDP WOMEN'S BOOK CLUB. The next book club meeting will feature “Mudbound” by Hillary Jordan on Monday March 15th at 8:30 pm at the home of Rachel Hanuka, 801 Evergreen Drive. The books will be available at the West Hempstead library.

SANDWICH CLUB: The next meeting of the West Hempstead "Sandwich Club" will be held on Monday evening March 15 at the Young Israel's Shul House at 625 Hempstead Avenue. The meeting will begin promptly at 8:30 pm. Our speaker will be Nat Orenbuch on "Recognizing the need for entitlement services such as home care, long term care, nursing, and housekeeping, and how to choose the right services." This meeting is open to all, and new attendees are always welcome. Discussion and attendance is confidential. We seek to support those who manage balancing the responsibilities for meeting the needs of their elderly or ill loved ones while caring for their immediate families.

SCHOOL BUSING CAMPAIGN: Congratulations to the entire West Hempstead community on the birth of a busing proposition! This past week Superintendent John Hogan informed the campaign that the public school district board has officially approved the proposition that many of our members have been working on. If the proposition is passed, it will allow for approximately 450 new children to be eligible for school busing, including 110 yeshiva students.
It will be up for vote on May 18th, Erev Shavuot. Please make sure you are registered to vote in WH by calling 571-VOTE. You can also sign up to follow the campaign on facebook. Just type "West Hempstead Voters in Support of Fair Busing" into the search box.
