THE MARK KALMANOWITZ FRIDAY NIGHT LEARNING PROGRAM The learning will continue through the winter months until we return the clock to daylight savings time on March 11, 2018, after Parshat Parah/Vayakhel-Pekudei. Every Friday night following Maariv a ten-minute dvar torah on the week's parsha is presented by a different person. This week's dvar torah will be delivered by Rabbi Effie Gross.

SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE: Shabbat, Parshat Yaveshev, December 8-9, 2017 Rabbi Edward Reichman, MD will spend Shabbat at ECDP. Rabbi Reichman is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Philosophy and History of medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he teaches Jewish medical ethics. He received his Rabbinical ordination from RIETS and writes and lectures internationally in the field of Jewish medical ethics, history and halacha. He will speak Friday night, Shabbat morning and Shabbat afternoon. A Kiddush will follow his lecture Shabbat morning. CARLEBACH MINYAN: Join Us For Our Monthly Carlebach Friday Night Davening (in addition to the regular Friday night minyan). The monthly schedule is December 22, 2017, January 12, 2018, February 9, 2018, March 2, 2018 and April 20, 2018. All are invited!

Memo From the Building Committee: Given our vibrant and growing ECDP community, the Building Committee has spent the past year assessing our Shul's needs and planning for the future. It is with great excitement that we share "a sneak peek" of the architectural renderings for a new renovation and expansion project which will provide much needed space and opportunities for growth. More information on this project will follow after Yom Tov. In the meantime, the renderings will be displayed on the monitors outside in the Lobby of the Main Sanctuary and in the coatroom of the Sprague Street entrance. We encourage all of you to take a look at the proposed design and you will have opportunities to provide input and feedback. EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE EARLY GROUPS: Due to extremely popular demand, “Early Groups” has returned! “Early Groups” provides supervised open play from 9:15-10:00am (before regular groups). Early Groups will be supervised by Rafi & the amazing ECDP Group Leaders.

BNEI AKIVA SNIF: JOIN US THIS Shabbat Afternoon, November 18th for SNIF from 4pm-Maarvin (5pm) in the YI Youth Wing. All 2nd – 6th graders are invited from ALL shuls to enjoy fun games, snack great chinuch, and amazing madrichim this Shabbat with our B'nei Akiva SNIF leaders. Don't miss out!

PARENT/CHILD LEARNING: Parent/Child Learning is here! The best program in town is back, and better than ever! PCL is at 6:30 pm, in the Beit Medrash, All are welcome! Join us for a fun filled evening of learning, pizza, divrei torah, snacks, prizes and raffles, and MORE! PCL is by far our most popular and most widely attended event at Shul, with well over one hundred people participating on a regular basis! PCL provides a quality parent/child bonding experience in a positive Jewish environment, not to mention over 200 prizes and 1,400 slices of pizza! Running such a high-caliber program costs us thousands of dollars per year to run, and we rely very heavily on donations and sponsorships in order to keep the program running. We are currently seeking families, as well as corporate sponsors, who would like to sponsor a week, month, or the whole season of learning. TEEN MINYAN: Stay tuned for dates for our next monthly teen minyan. which takes place on Shabbat morning at 9:30 am at the Wachtell Room of Congregation Shaaray Shalom followed by a Hot Kiddush.

 

SISTERHOOD NOTICES

FRIDAY NIGHT ONEG: Postponed. As a result of a scheduling conflict the Sisterhood Oneg is being postponed and will not take place this Friday night. We will circulate a new date shortly.

ECDP WOMEN'S BOOK CLUB: The book club featuring “November 9by Colleen Hoover will be meeting Tuesday, November 28 at 8:30 pm at the home of Leah Fish, 632 Jefferson Street. The books are available at the West Hempstead library under Nancy’s book club.

CALLING ALL BABYSITTERS. ECDP Sisterhood is once again updating our list of babysitters in the community. The list will be distributed to our members and others in the community. MANC Early Winter hours: Effective Sunday night, November 5, 2017, the Mikvah weekend hours are: Saturday night: 6 pm – 10:30 pm, Sunday: 5:30 pm – 10:30 pm **, Motzei Shabbat & Sunday:  a community member is on duty until 7:30 pm. At 7:30 pm our regular attendant will come on duty. **Check the MANC message for any changes in the time. Effective Monday, November 6, 2017 the Mikvah will open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at 5:30 pm – 10:30 pm. Please check the machine for new time as the zman changes. SHUL REMINDERS: Please do not bring any Strollers into the Shul. Strollers must remain outside all buildings. Please do not bring food into the new sanctuary. Please remember to make sure the lights are off and the doors are locked when you are the last or next to last person to leave the Shul. Thank you for your cooperation.

MEMO FROM THE WELCOMING COMMITTEE: The Welcoming Committee welcomes new families to West Hempstead. Additionally, they arrange a Friday night dinner to be delivered to new families for their first Shabbat. We are looking for more volunteers that would be interested in offering to bring Shabbat food for a new family when they move in.
